Our Patron for the seventh year is media personality and AFL Coaching Director Danny Frawley. A "Ballarat Boy" by birth, Danny still has very strong connections with the city and the area. The ride will again this year travel through most of the areas where he grew up. Danny is passionate about cancer research having seen both family and close friends be affected by this disease.
We are very excited to announce that in 2014 Scott McGrory will be returning to ride the Ballarat Cycle Classic. Scott is one of Australia's most prolific and successful racing and track cyclists, he began his Olympic career with a bronze medal in the team pursuit at the 1988 Summer Olympics at the age of 18. Scott went on to win the gold medal in the Madison at the 2000 Summer Olympics in Sydney and a silver in the Madison at the 1996 UCI Track Cycling World Championships in Manchester.
A former Australian Road Race Champion Scott also achieved success as a road cyclist riding for the world's number one ranked team, Mapei, where he was a teammate of Cadel Evans.
Since retiring, Scott has continued to be an important and insightful contributor to the cycling world, joining the coaching staff at the Victorian Institute of Sport and working as a cycling commentator and reporter at events such as the Tour de France, and World Cycling Championships.
We look forward to seeing Scott again on the Cycle Classic course!
THANKS A MILLION
In our seventh year, we anticipate that the total funds raised across the history of the Cycle Classic will eclipse $1 Million Dollars. This is an incredible achievement and demonstrates the amazing things that a community can achieve, so this year we are making every single participant in the Cycle Classic our Ambassador, because it is through the support of each individual and organisation that we can achieve amazing things together. "Thanks A Million"
