Leave a gift to Cancer Research in your Will

For many of our supporters, medical research is most important to help relieve the suffering of our friends and family. You can choose to leave a gift to cancer research in your Will. You’ll be supporting the search for cures and the improvement of treatment within our community now and into the future.

How to Leave a Bequest

In leaving a gift in your Will, you may choose to nominate a specific area of cancer research, a specific research fellowship or a student scholarship.  There are also several different types of bequests you may like to consider:

  • Percentage Bequest: A percentage bequest is a nominated percentage of your estate.
  • Residual Bequest: The residual bequest is what remains of your estate after family and friends have been provided for.
  • Specific Bequest: A specific bequest is a nominated amount or a specific gift.

Your Will

A Will is one of the most important documents you will prepare as it gives you the choice to provide for the people you love and causes that are most significant to you. By including a gift to the Fiona Elsey Cancer Research Institute in your Will, you are leaving a meaningful contribution that will positively impact the work being undertaken at the Institute.  If you already have a Will in place and wish to make provisions for the Institute, a simple amendment or codicil can be arranged through your solicitor. Remember to review your Will every few years as your circumstances may change.

Wording

To ensure that the correct preparation and wording of your bequest is recorded in your Will, we suggest you make an appointment with your solicitor.  To make a bequest to the Fiona Elsey Cancer Research Institute, the following wording may be useful:  ‘I give (insert the bequest detail – the residual, a percentage of the estate or a nominated gift or property, money or item of value) to Fiona Elsey Cancer Research Institute of Suite 23-26, 106-110 Lydiard Street South, Ballarat Vic 3350 and I declare that the receipt of the Public Officer, Chief Financial Officer or Chief Executive Officer for the time being shall be sufficient discharge to my Trustee/s for the payment of such benefit.’
